The sound of silence，在二、三十年前筆者駐唱的年代裡，是屬於比較令聽眾或觀眾驚艷的歌曲，原因無它，因為它是以吉他伴奏為主的歌曲，只要你彈奏得跟原曲極為相同的節奏共鳴，常常會讓人以為不是現場演唱，而是在播卡帶或是唱片，當然這最大的因素是歌手的歌聲與原唱極為接近的關係，在我駐唱的生涯裡，被這樣誤以為的情況，其實相當相當的多……尤其是以灰狼羅伯的歌曲時最常發生，當然還有演唱﹝文森‧梵谷﹞時，也是相同的，自然這首沈默之聲，也同樣被誤會多次，每次被人質疑時，坦白說，心中是蠻自豪的……呵呵。

我看到了數以萬計或者更多的人們

People talking without speaking

人們聊天而不談心

People hearing without listening

只用耳朵聽而非用心傾聽

People writing songs that voices never share

人們寫著毫無感情分享的歌

And no one dare disturb the sound of silence

而且沒有人敢去驚擾沈默之聲

"Fools" said I "you do not know"

「愚蠢的人們啊！」我說：「你們不明白-----」

"Silence like a cancer grows

「沈默像癌細胞一樣蔓延

在沈默的井裡發出回聲------

人們對著自己創造出來的霓虹神明膜拜禱告

And the sign flashed out it's warning

告示上閃爍著警句

In the words that it was forming, and the signs said

在逐漸顯現的字句中，它說著：
