西洋老歌為數眾多，但總有幾首特別膾炙人口，如" The end of the world 世界末日 "，無論是哪家唱片公司、從哪一個角度遴選，這首歌很少被漏掉……「太陽為何依然照耀，浪潮為何拍打著海岸，難道它們不知道這是世界末日……」情真意切的歌詞字面上看來是首失戀情歌，但作詞者 Sylvia Dee 席薇亞迪在填詞當時甫遭父喪，於是藉著歌詞，抒發父親因病撒手離世帶給她的傷痛。

The end of the world 在 1962 年 12 月發行後，聲勢扶搖直上，在全美百大單曲榜第二名、鄉村排行榜第二名、成人抒情榜第一名、節奏藍調榜第四名。同一首歌同時進入四個排行榜而且都在前十名，如此空前的的紀錄至今仍未被打破。2001 年，一生擁有葛萊美 14 個獎座與終身成就獎的製作人卻特亞特金斯過世，喪禮上有好友現場演奏" The end of the world "。史琪特戴維絲演唱的版本，則迴盪在她自己的人生告別式現場，時年為 2004。
